OK, this has been going on for too long

I have a Radeon sapphire, which cost me about $150. The reviews were spectacular and all the benchmark videos were perfect for my needs. However, I am having some issues.

After installing the card, all of it's drivers, removing the old drivers etc... I got 25 fps on GTA IV. Which was still playable, but not what i was expecting. Now, I get 5fps in the menus, which just makes the game unplayable. However, youtube videos, and online graphics load perfectly.

On the benchmark test for GTA IV, i got .5 fps. I know this shouldn't happen as I got 25fps before.

I have been trying to fix his for a month, and i am getting very frustrated.

Please help.

No, as I said, total noob.
Does this mean i should replace the cpu or put new thermal paste on it or what?

I use Speccy, a small free program, to examine things like temps. It sounds like your computer works fine until something, like a game, stresses it. Stressing it raises temps, if you don't have good cooling then it'll slow down in order to control the temps. Run Speccy and see what your temps are like when you are doing nothing. Then load a game and when framerate drops go back to your desktop and look at the temps(keep Speccy running).

it means either the cpu cooler is not installed correctly, the fans are not working or clogged, or it is time to clean it and re-install with new paste

i suggest you install msi afterburner

turn on cpu temp monitoring in the OSD play a game and see how hot it gets

Ok, I really do not know how to read the afterburner graph. CPU them 2, 3, and 4 were steady at around 100, maybe 105 at some points. However, cpu temp 1 has two lines. One says 98, the other says 198.

Help!

That is most certainly an issue. A loose heatsink leads to higher temps, but a heatsink not fastened to the point it is falling off the CPU is most likely barely cooling at all.

I went ahead and ordered a new heatsink. It was falling apart, the paste was coming off, and won't install, as the pushpins snapped.
