a 980ti is better than a titan though, for gaming.
Meh, kinda sorta not really.

You don't need more than 8GBs for gaming, 16 if you wanna be safer, and more speed help more than extra space.

A GTX 980/980ti would be better for "ultimate" at 1080 though, the 970 has a few weakpoints that hold it back from "ultimate."

What you have isn't bad, but not the best way of spending money.

If you want to play at max settings included AA, shadows, all and i mean ALL maxed, maybe 970 can't do that, the difference its minimal that's why 970 it's the better card for 1080p cos you can play close to ALL max, 980Ti it's more to enough for 1440p with ALL. If you want to play on 1080p and you don't want to spend a lot a 970 its your target 980 don't give a lot more vs 970 and the performance/price don't worth it. For the RAM, the games don't need at general more than 8. just a little bit of games now need 16, and there is no game that need 32GB RAM.

Lol, everyone picks on the RAM, the only reason I did that is because I wanted to have something in my rig future proofed, but on a budget and RAM was one of the components I could future proof without breaking too much bank. But I know the RAM is ridiculous :)

Ok, on PC and games there is no future proof, for example the 295x2 it's an amazing card with 2 GPUs but now you can perform close the same with a 980Ti and less price. the best card now its 980 Ti, the brand is your choice.
Now if you want a ultimate you can buy 2 GTX 980 Ti or 2 GTX 970 SLI and with that you can play for a long time but 1200 USD it's too much for a future that the tecnology gonna make better things in less time. That's why you need to buy for the present and a little bit future.

Basically future proofing is stupid.

It's probably smarter to build a $700-800 system every 2-3 years, than to build a 1600-2000 system and expect it to last for 4-6 years.

Well the way I see it is I am 29 years old, I will probably game a little longer, but my interest library has narrowed significantly due to my aging/maturity. So I think the $1200 drop for a last appreciation was worth it... But that's just me. Eventually I will just probably stop playing games altogether, so this is kinda like a last gift to myself to close what I have left in myself for gaming. If that makes sense..

Based on your specs, you must have spent a good dollar on your rig? Considering you got a better quality GPU than I with the same CPU...

when i say 1200 USD it means 1200 just for a 2 GTX980Ti (600 each), full PC may cost close to 2500 for a maxed power.
