Good fx 6300 overclock?

Hey, I just wanted to overlock the cpu with only the multiplier and got 4.2ghz. Is this a decent overclock without playing with any other settings?

I got a 4.4GHZ on hyper 212 plus cpu cooler with setting multiplier only, and i don't know ANYTHING about overclocking.

I hope to be using the same sort of setup that you have, using a fx-6300 and a hyper 212 evo cooler, at 4.4ghz is your processor running ok? what degrees does it average around? - Thanks

At 4.4 GHZ windows was running fine but I was getting errors in Prime95, so I backed off. Windows was about 35C @ 4.4GHZ

I had to back it off to 4.0 GHZ for 0 errors in Prime95, and it was averaging around 44C running prime95 small FFTs. I'm sure 4.2 or (maybe 4.4 GHZ) can be stable eventually, it would take time and patience to get it stable though, neither of which I have!

COuld not get the RAM overclocked though, never figured that out.

Thanks, I've read that the fx-6300 can actually be OC'ed to the equivalent of a i5 3570k? Im not sure at what GHZ it was, but I'm fairly sure it can be overclocked to over 4.5ghz? I dont know an awful lot about overclocking, and its something I have not attempted before, but im sure when I do build my system I will definitely give it a go!

i was new to this and i built my first PC on a budget with an Fx 6300. i think im starting to know a decent amount after staring at the internet for hours on end. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/fx-8350-8320-6300-4300_9.html this link helped me alot with questions like vcore volt ranges etc...... definitely download CPU-z if you dont have it. i use that. and easy tune 6 to watch my temps. from another post i read..... that you need to make sure to set most of your settings in the bios to default.... im currently working on buying a simple 212 evo. since that's supposedly the best choice for the build? or does anybody think this one would work better? they are the same price..... any help would be cool thx.

I just finished overclocking my 6300 with the hyper evo. what ghz are you looking for? i noticed i was getting about 70-80% gpu usage in battlefield 3 with my 7970ghz
i went to 4.5ghz and 99% gpu usage. Have you tried 4.2ghz+ with a bit of voltage increase?

What is the stock Vcore voltage for 6300?
I was able to get my 4170 to 4.8ghz(stock running@4.2) with a Vcore of 1.40625v(from stock of 1.380625) and an FSB of 210 from 200, I have pushed it to 5ghz but it was running at 1.57500v and was reaching socket temps of 72-74C

Considering it is going from a stock of 3.5 to 4.2 (a 700mhz difference) yes it is quite a good overclock 😉

eyuh... it is a good overclock my 4170 is at 4.8 with the FSB OC'd as well and it is running at 1.40625v

4.7ghz can be achieved on air cooling at a max temp of 65°C at 100% load and a vcore of around 1.5 volts.
check the xbit-labs link in one of the posts above and ses for yourself

to get pass 4.2 you gonna need to add a little voltage, i currently have my FX 6300 @4.5Ghz with 1.45 volts

I have the 212 evo as well, and a msi 990fxa gd80v2. I managed to get mine to 4444 at 3.93 volts. anything over that the volts would be so high it would overheat. so i disabled a core (cores 5&6) in the bios and turned it into a 4 core. that i managed to get to 4.9ghz at like 4.5 volts, and then i turned it into a 2 core (cores 3&4) and i got it a 5035 at like 4.8volts, which is peaking at 63C under a load :/

wouldn't it be better if i could change it into a 1 module per core processor (3 core)? I tried using clickbios II to do such a thing (my real bios didn't have the option) and the effect seemed legit. Even my real bios was reading it as a 3core, but it was just as unstable as the 6 core at higher freqs. also i had to reset my bios to change it back to a 6 core -_-

iether way a 2 core at 5ghz got smashed by the 6 core results in pasmark lol. did much better on single threading tasks tho

oh yeah and those are stable results, i could post at higher freqs but occt would error out all the time.
