I am building a rig which can play modern games smoothly(not hardcore).
Most gamers know that the Graphics card is really important for gaming.
I am on a tight budget so I was thinking whether I should buy one NVIDIA GTX 950 now and another one in the future or any other card in a similar price range (not 960).
And please try to answer the following question.

Will the 950 run most Modern games in 1080pp?
How long can it be expected to run games at high?
Will the second one will make a huge difference?

Thank You

Yes, I'd say the 950 will run 1080p without a problem. By "how long?" you mean time wise, probably longer than a single sitting. Adding a second one would increase stability when settings are at max.

I just saw Tom's Hardware review and even saw benchmarking of 2x 950 sli whose performance was a little lower than a single 980. And by timewise I mean futureproof. That's why I was thinking of two because a single one has 2gb vram which is its drawback.

Even if you get two of them, you will STILL have only 2Gb VRAM.
The memory isn't shared between the 2 cards.
That tech comes with Pascal.

950 is a budget card and will play most games at medium to high at 1080p. Sometimes you may have to bring some settings down to get the stable 60fps.

They will, if the game supports SLI
And with DX12 having native multi-GPU support, it's hard to say what the future of SLI will be.
A 960 with more VRAM would be a better option.
