Good hardware but bad performance

My specs are:

CPU - i7 6700k
GPU - GTX 1080 Strix OC
RAM - 16gb DDR4 3200mhz
Monitor - Asus ROG PG27VQ on DP with GSYNC and 165HZ enabled.

I've recently upgraded the monitor from an awful 35hz dell monitor and now I can't play anything at more than 60fps on medium to high settings. I used to be able to run any game at high-ultra with >100fps, now games like Metro: Last Light stutter awfully on medium to high settings, and on Fortnite I can't get the 120-200 fps on Max settings I used to get. I have updated drivers and all the hertz set properly on my monitor, if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Yep but the jump to 1440P is still pretty big (2560x1440). This will hammer your performance from 1200P. Your lower frame rates are to be expected at the same settings. You'll have to lower settings to achieve similar frame rates. Sorry the news isn't better.
