[SOLVED] Good internet high ping

I will make it short, I have got 300mbps fiber optics, a beast of a PC but realy high ping. I split the lan cable to two PCs on high end gaming pc and a old (2009) work pc and the old pc has much better ping than the gaming pc although they stand only one meter apart and have the same fiber optic cable going into theam. I thought it could be the software or hardware but how is teh 2009 pc better than?
Hopefully somebody has an answer becuase it starts to get realy annoying.

As you probably know, ping is the amount of time it takes for an information packet to go from your device to point X and back. Since you have 2 devices on the same network with different pings, it would be easy to blame one of your cables, or the Ethernet port, or even some software on your computer ... that's making one big assumption ... when you are measuring ping on the 2 computers, are you doing it the same way (are we comparing apples to apples, or oranges to oranges)?

On both computers, open a command prompt and type "ping 172.217.9.14" (an ip address for google). You will get 4 lines in return. What are the ping times on gaming PC vs your work PC?

If they really are different by more than a couple percent, then you have an issue with your Ethernet cable (don't tell me your using WiFi), the Ethernet port, or some software on your gaming PC.

Thanks for answering, I did the"ping 172.217.9.14" and the same numberes apere, but in every game i have tried on both pcs the old one had better ping. And the cables are fine, and if they were brocken than they would both have bad ping. I have average 125ms right now which is probably quit bad. A different htink i just remembered is that teh ping changes, many times the sign is red but sometimesw its just fine.

maybe contact your ISP and report them the high ping / latency . if you live in north america or europe and close to the other players and not somewhere like south africa or australia only with a fiber internet .

btw pinging google won't help google is super fast everywhere . But when you play online you have to connect to the other players , there's no google to help. specially where it's p2p like in call of duty . you might have fiber , but the player on the other end might be using nothing more than an adsl .

What happens if you ping the actual game server. If that does not work try a tracert to the server and then ping the last hop that responds. Do you get the same ping on both machines.

Game ping is not actually ping many times. The problem tends to be if the game is busy doing something when the response to the ping is left in the buffer. So the game blames network for poor response when what actually happened is the game added in the time when it did not even look for the response. Many times this is a video driver issue but it can be many other things.

Like Bill said ... this sounds like a symptom of something else. I expect what ever you ping (using the ping command) from both machines will show the same thing. This is good and bad. It's good to know that there is nothing wrong with the computer you probably spent a lot of money on. The bad part is trying to find why it's happening. I wonder what happens if you try playing a game on low settings.

125 ms ping to google is not great.
