Good motherboard for I5 4690k

i'm currently using a gigabyte 1150 b85 mobo https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VX1GGWQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've been using it for quite some time. I was thinking of replacing it with a better one, the one I currently have apparently doesn't support overclocking,
my current build is;
-i5 4690k
-gtx 970
-8gb 1600 ddr3 ram (2x4gb)
-750 watt ega 80b+
I've been trying to play games such as ESO and black desert and haven't been getting performance as good as people with similar builds. I just feel like I need some sort of upgrade.

Other than the motherboard, I've also been looking into picking up 8 more gigs of dd3 ram and a cooler master hyper 212 evo.
I just need help with suggestions, I'm not trying to spend too much money. Just whats needed.

Might be worth it more to sell the CPU, motherboard, RAM and wait for AMD Ryzen to release first in a few weeks. Looks like they'll have very competitive options for the price (4C/8T SMT processors for the price of an i5 4C/4T processor).

I'm wondering though if you're not getting full performance from your own build.

a good MB would be Z97 based one.
technically Z87 too, but the Z97 adds native support for M.2 drives including NVMe boot.
a specific model will depend on what is available in your country.
for a good and stable overclock, a good VRM is required.

Asus Gryphon Z87 or Z97 boards very good boards for the 4th gen cpus, but pricey now they are rare,\but many refurbished z87 and z98 boards can be found on newegg.com or tigerdirect.com

to be honest best price I found was on Ebay, just got a z87 asus gryphon for 125$ new old stock in a box.

The motherboard/RAM upgrades will offer some performance increases. Nothing to text home to mom about imo. If I was going to be buying a new motherboard it wouldn't be a Z97 or any socket 1150 board. It would be a new system. I would sell my internals and start from scratch.

You say maybe RAM. What does MSI Afterburner https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner tell you?
It told me

I am not even close to exceeding 8GB. I was also not close to exceeding VRAM either. My GPU and CPU temps. weren't worrisome.

I would then invest in a system with a 1070. The 1060/480 wouldn't be enough of a boost imo. I did see your statement about spending. Selling off the old and then reinvesting in a new system isn't wasteful imo.
