About two months ago my screen started going black for a few seconds. This happened several times a day. At first I thought it might have been the DP cable, so I replaced it with a new and better quality one. That didn't solve the issue. Looking around the net I discovered that a lot of people were having the same issue and it turns out that Chrome was the cause.

What didn't work:
  1. Deleted all extensions and restarted PC
  2. Reinstalled Chrome and restarted PC
  3. Disabled hardware support in Chrome and editing a shortcut on the desktop by adding this command: –disable-gpu

The screen would still occasionally go black. In frustration I deleted Chrome from my PC and am now using Edge. It's been a few days already and no black screen. Not sure what the issue is with Chrome.
Anyone here have a suggestion?

Chrome may be buggy or corrupted. Some fix needed.

Or Chrome may be in conflict with Windows or some other application.

Look in Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.

Either one or both tools may be capturing some error codes, warnings, or even informational events just before or at the time of the black screens.

Other potential culprits may be listed - simply preludes to crashing Chrome and/or otherwise causing the black screens.

Any given entry can be clicked for more details. The details may or may not be helpful.

Still worth taking a close and careful look.

Seems to be a problem with Chrome's Garbage Collector.

Do a google search using "chrome browser garbage collector error".

Read and then revise the search critieria as applicable to the described problems.

You may need to reinstall Chrome.

If the problem continues then run "dism" and "sfc /scannow" to look for, find, and fix buggy or corrupted Windows files.

Does your system support using HDMI instead of DP? You could try using that instead.
Many of the games I play are at 1440p with 165 Hz. Not sure a HDMI cable can give me the same performance as a DP cable. Looking through the internet I've discovered that the "Chrome causing black screen" problem has plagued a number of users since 2020. There are various solutions, but none of them really work. The one that many sites suggest is what is found in this HP link.
