EDGE is a lot slower than HSPA+, and it's easy to notice the difference there. That said, most people just can't bottleneck HSPA+ anyway. (CDMA 3G, on the other hand, only has the speed of a slow DSL connection, several times slower than HSPA+, so I guess it's more necessary there.) Personally, I"ll take more battery life, not being locked to a carrier, and STOCK ANDROID over LTE.
