Google's current-generation TPU already uses SiFive's X280 general-purpose core to feed data to Google's matrix multiplication units or, as SiFive puts it, accelerate the accelerator.
Yeah, they're basically just acting as embedded cores that feed & manage the specialized units responsible for shouldering the real compute burden.

This is a big deal for SiFive, but it's not a breakout moment for RISC-V. It's not Google using RISC-V to run its generic cloud services. That would be truly momentous.
 
I still think it's an important moment for Risc-V. For one reason or the other it has been chosen over the competition. Be it price, power consumption or whatever, but there is a reason it was chosen,.
