Hey everyone,

So I'm trying to set up my rig (probably MacBook Pro in the future as well) to use Google's public DNS server. Unfortunately the problem I've run into when trying to follow Google's steps is this: "In order to configure TCP/IP you install and enable a network adapter card."

I tried searching this issue and trying to fix it myself by following this (click me) article's steps but it didn't work and I still get the same error.

Anyone else have an idea on what I can do to set this up correctly?

lol... OK... the best way to use the DNS is to set it in the Router... typically all systems on the router will then use its DNS settings.

If a portable system, like a laptop, you will need to change the way the system accepts DNS. For Windows (Vista, 7, 8..) , goto the "Network and Sharing Center", then on the left, select Change Adapter Settings, then Right Click your NIC and select Propeties, Select TCP/IPv4 and the click Properites... the second box is DNS, to set your own, click the "Use the following... selection and enter the IP Address desired, OK out and try it.

From Apple Support:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Network.

Select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, unless you named it something else) in the list, then click Advanced.

Click DNS, then click Add (+) at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 or IPv6 address for the DNS server.

Click Add (+) at the bottom of the Search Domain list and enter the search domain, for example, apple.com.

When you’re finished, click OK.

Linux is, of course, slightly different...

I tried that but that is where I get the error message to come up.

Unfortunately it looks like my ISP controls the DNS settings on their end and not my router/modem (using a Motorola Surfboard, not sure what model exactly though) so I need to set it up per device.

I live in Orlando, Florida and use Brighthouse as my ISP. I have a 45 mb/s download and 5mb/s upload speed. I get the correct speeds when doing speedtests but it doesn't show when browsing the web or watching videos/streams.

I tried looking in my router's settings and didn't find anywhere I could change my DNS settings.

But if you mean where am I physically: I am in my chair. :)
