Got a extra 4gb of ram is it worth to install if it will underclock the rest?

I have my sniper ram installed in the dimm2/dimm/4 slots. I was wondering if its worth it to install the other ram and if it would downclock the other ram. I have the xmp profile enabled for the ram I have installed.

Would I have to turn off the xmp profile to install the other ram? Should I enable xmp profile after installing the other ram? What slot should I put the other ram into if I do? Dimm1 or Dimm 3 slot?

The motherboard manual I can't find any info about this.

n general you would think 12gb would be better than 8gb of ram but if it has to downclock all the ram would that make it better to just leave the 8gb I have in?

8Gb is enough to run anything really not worth it to put in that extra 4gb that has different latency. When it comes to ram you want to have all the sticks same latency mhz and even manufacturer.

Can give it a try, - if the sticks will play together and it's a 30/70 tossup if they will (30 being Yes), prob the best you will get is 1866, 8GB in dual channel and 4 in single channel - I'd try running them at the RJ X spec timings which you'll have to set up manually

What would be the manual settings? Do you guys think gskill would help me out over the phone for free on this or? I mean I already love the speed of my new cpu and all its just having that extra 4gb laying around feels weird you know?

Ok sorry I guess I get what you mean run them in the 4gb stick timings just not sure what those would be in bios. Do you guys think I would be able to tell the speed difference between the two?

XMP won't work with mixed sticks so would manually set to 1866, 9-10-9-28, 1.6

The intel heatsink ended up sitting a little close for comfort so I sat it at dimm3. Enabled xmp and it worked great!!
