So a long time ago i built this computer and purchased a copy of windows xp. Can i now sell the windows xp since i have purchased the full win 8 version? I will be deleting the hard drive that xp is on as well and taking that computer apart so no one will be using the cd anymore. Do i need to do anything before i sell the windows xp with cd key if i can sell it?

Its a windows xp professional upgrade box with cds and cd key. I got it from bestbuy a while back so its a legit copy, im the only one who installed it. But since i am no longer using it and am wiping the hard drive figured i can sell it.

If it says OEM anywhere on that CD's ... you can't sell it. I mean you can, but buyer won't be able to register it. Even you can't register it on another PC. It can be registered only on one PC and that's all.

If it says RETAIL then you can sell it. You unregister from your PC and buyer or you can register it on another PC.
