Hi all,
So recently my latest obsession is getting 144hz as often as I can and I've been playing with the idea of upgrading to an i7, looking at a 8700k or a 7700k.
My gpu is a 1070, mobo is an asrock z75 pro 3.
Im open to suggestions as I'm still very much a novice in the hardware world.

This motherboard chipset is designed for Ivy bridge (Intel 3000-series CPUs)...

The 6600K is a waste of money. I have one and it only lasted a year and a half before it became a huge bottleneck due to too few CPU cores. The 7700K will only be ~20% more performance over a 7600K and ~22-23% more over the 6600K. Meanwhile, the 9600K would offer a ~55% improvement over a 6600K (two more physical CPU cores). If you're on a budget then the 9600K is a decent choice but I'd suggest a 9700K. Since you're aiming for 144Hz gaming that basically rules out Ryzen since the single thread performance will be a bottleneck to the high framerates.
