GPU 6+6 pin need help with cable and PSU configuration

Hi I have just recently upgraded and need help on connecting my GPU to the PSU. I have an EVGA GTX 980 with 6+6 pin and an EVGA G2 750W. The card came with two 6pin to molex adapters. I can plug these in and use a PERIF cable that has four molex splitters and a 6pin to connect into the PSU. My PSU has two 6+2 to 8 pin VGA connectors as well.

Do I use the VGA connectors or the PERIF one to connect the molex cables together?

Of note are the adapters that came with the GPU. The 6 pin connectors that go into the GPU look different, they have a middle pin in the top row that is missing. The 6+2 pin VGA ones have one filled in. Also the VGA cable go into two separate 8 pin holes in the PSU.

Does this difference matter?

You don't need to use the 6 pin to molex adapter since your psu support the required cables.
Just use the pcie cables from your psu, which EVGA has labelled as "VGA", directly to plug in to the gpu.

This is where I'm a bit confused. My GPU has 6+6 holes. So I only need to use one VGA cable? That would fill 6 holes on the GPU and then lead to 8 holes on my PSU? What would happen if I used two VGA cables and filled all 12 holes.

use a single pcie cable for each, the 6+2 side goes to the gpu the 6-pin to your psu VGA slot

then another single cable 6+2 into the other gpu slot, connect that cable to VGA2 slot of your power supply

the solid 6-pin end goes to the psu, the "split" end goes to the gpu

You need to use two "VGA" cables. Each separate VGA cable should have its own slot on the psu.

Hey thanks for this! So it doesn't matter that the 6 pin to molex cables that I got with the GPU have a middle pin missing in one of the rows? Is it only this way because it is molex adapted? Sorry for sounding paranoid I just want to be sure that I don't fry the GPU by having it plugged in to two VGA slots on my PSU

its better if you do that actually, doesnt hurt to use a single cable to both either that power supply is top notch


never use molex if you have the pcie cables
