In games I usually see around a 40% usage of my CPU and GPU which gives me around 40fps, I've checked my temps and both the GPU and the CPU remain around 40 degrees.

What is causing this and is there any way to fix it?

Solution
I think one factor could be your single channel ram, which hurts Ryzen perfoamce somewhat (a few charts here: https://m.imgur.com/a/Awm6O). Also having only 8gb will hurt a bit - what's your ram usage like in farcry? If you're maxed out and some data is being offloaded to the hard drive then that'll slow things down.

It's also be worth keeping an eye on CPU and GPU clock speed whist you game - if, for instance, the vrm on your motherboard was struggling, your CPU might throttle to keeps vrm temps down.

I'm running a GTX 1070 with a Ryzen 1600, only 8gb of ram but I'm getting an upgrade soon.

Running all games (Far cry 5, cities skylines, Doom) at 2560x1440
