GPU and CPU overheating with GTA V

My GPU and CPU both overheat while playing GTA V 🙁
CPU gets up to 89°-91° and GPU up to 75°.
I've had this PC for about a year.

CPU: Intel i7-4770k 3,5GHz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 16GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz CL9
Video Card: VGA Gigabyte nVidia GeForce GTX 770 OC Core 1137/1189MHz Memory GDDR5 7010MHz 2GB
Hard Disk: 1TB 6 Gbit/s transfer rate
SSD: 128GB 555 MB/s sequential read — 330 MB/s sequential write
Mother board: Asrock Z87m extreme
PSU: Antec TP-750C EC 80+ Gold
CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Case: Cooler Master ELITE 344 - m-ATX

The CPU should never get that hot (you are talking Celsius, correct?). What software are you using to get the temperature readings?

These are normal temperatures, I don't see an overheating at all. CPU could be a bit cooler, in that case buy a better CPU cooler e.g. Thermaltake Macho.

Also I would do a Prime95 test and then post the CPU temperatures again, just to be sure.

GPU temp is fine. CPU is border line too hot. Are you on the stock cooler?

The CPU cooler looks like it uses the push pins. They can be tricky to install correctly. I would remove it, re apply thermal paste and install again. When you push them in, start with one then the other in the opposite corner. Be extra sure that the plastic head splits underneath the motherboard and that is locks.

Verify you are running the latest BIOS, and confirm that the sometimes questionable AsRock 'quality' components are not over-volting your CPU ...

Ummm... CPU gets up to 89°-91° <-- That should be nigh near panic time.

I don't like to see my CPU get over 70c.
At 80c I start finding ways to lower the workload on the CPU.
At 90c I pull the plug.

91c is 196f... That is too hot. I'm sorry... That is how it is.

I use RealTemp to check the temperature (and yes it's Celsius).

I'm sorry if I sound stupid but how do I check if I'm running the latest BIOS? And how do I know if the problem it's caused by the AsRock components?

I didn't build the PC myself.. I just bought the components and gave them to a shop who does this kind of stuff so I really don't know how to remove it and I don't have thermal paste at home..

Nope.. I bought this Arctic Freezer one but I guess it isn't doing a great job..

Is it throttling? what is the clock speed at this temp?

That cooler should work better than it is. Maybe the thermal paste was not applied properly. Or the cooler is not seated correctly or all the way down.

Your CPU is already getting too hot. You don't need any test to tell you this at this point. Don't run any Prime95 test until after you get the heat situation fixed. As other people have said, the CPU cooler should be removed, thermal interface material re-applied and CPU cooler reseated. If that doesn't do the trick something is faulty with either the cooler, CPU, or motherboard. The fan is running fine on the CPU cooler?

If you open the other side of the case, most modern cases have a cut out behind the cpu. If this is the case, you should see 4 white plastic barbs piercing through the motherboard. If any of those barbs are missing or not competely pushed through then you'll need to reinstall it. There are plenty of youtube videos on installing the stock fan which uses the same push pin install as your cooler.

...how do I check if I'm running the latest BIOS?

Download and run CPUz.

In the motherboard tab the BIOS will be identified --- compare that to the latest BIOS available from AsRock for your specific motherboard.

If any of those barbs are missing or not competely pushed through then you'll need to reinstall it. There are plenty of youtube videos on installing the stock fan which uses the same push pin install as your cooler.

I hate the push-pin coolers altogether. I haven't had any problems with them as of yet, but they seem like one of those things we've evolved well beyond but still see in the box with a processor... btw... where are my chip pullers?...
