Hey, so I want to purchase this computer:
http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/703711/Dell-Inspiron-3646-Desktop-Computer-With/?cm_mmc=PLA-_-Google-_-Computers_Tablets-_-703711-VQ6-45901862996-VQ16-c-VQ17-pla-VQ18-online-VQ19-703711-VQ20-80984609636-VQ21-&gclid=Cj0KEQjw3auuBRDj1LnQyLjy-4sBEiQAKPU_vXtj6ayELm-nkm8PDnhsLPuNd6R78OSu9ypHHdBE5V0aAir88P8HAQ

But I would like to add a GPU to it. I have already confirmed that the GT 610 will fit inside the box as I have a different computer with the same box, and it fits. I just have 2 issues: One: Can the GT 610 run on the 220 watt power supply? And Two: Does the motherboard have a PCI Express?

Solution

No, it can't run with the 220 watt power supply. You would need at least 300-350W.

And from pictures of the motherboard, no there is no PCI Express so you will need to get a new motherboard. You can double check if you want to make sure, but I don't think there is one. PCI Express slots look like this: http://prntscr.com/841pvq << It can be any color

The reason why Dell desktops aren't the best for gaming is because the upgrade potential isn't the best. Some of the cases and motherboards are just designed just for each other. Dell is such a big company that they can afford to make their own versions and form factors of computers, unlike companies like HP and all who just use the standard mATX or ATX form factor and a normal case.

I think I just seen similar post before, anyway did anyone checked provided link, if not you should, go there and scroll all the way down and you will see how strong is .......................... EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY IS.

65 Watt AC Adaptor

Common, I can not stop laughing :bounce::pt1cable:

Well. Um. Oops. I own a different Inspiron with the same box, so I just assumed it had the same PSU......
I didn't even know there was such a thing as an external PSU, much less a 65 watt one.

This is OK, because it is easy to catch with naked eye, however you did not expect to see anything like this, I catch it because I usually look into the system prior to answering, God did not created all Dell equally.
There is also Optiplex 9020 with i7 CPU (I think one of the latest Optiplexes), which is using custom PSU and motherboard, not ATX, this one is more difficult to catch and buyer will find out too late that upgrades are not possible.
