[SOLVED] GPU Backplate causing crashes

I believe I have the same problem as TechYesCity in this video:

. My R9 390 (not X) Nitro crashes with artifacts when it has a load on it when the backplate is installed but not when the backplate is removed. I have the same scuffs on the backplate that Bryan demonstrated in the video. Is it possible to coat the bottom of the backplate with something that could prevent this issue from occurring so that it can still be used with the backplate? Could I possibly line the bottom of the backplate with some kind of tape or paint etc.? Would any insulator coated on the bottom of the backplate stop this issue? Thank you.

Solution
Backplate in almost all GPUs has no real usage in cooling. I have read that in some rare cases it even makes the GPU hotter. It's for aesthetics and to help with the GPU sag/PCIe bend.

If you don't want it on, you can remove it.
