How do I reinstall driver software when the gpu can't be detected when I plug it in correctly. I also uninstalled everything to do with the card from device manager before trying to reinstall.

Solution
Are you using a power strip or is your power supply plugged directly into the wall socket? If you are using a power strip/surge protector, try plugging directly into the wall socket. Probably not the issue, but I've seen this once or twice before.

You don't need to be in device manager to remove and reinstall the GPU card drivers?

Is the GPU card installed and you are currently using it to display to your monitor? If yes, then do this.

If not, then you need to install the graphics card, plug the monitor cable into it, boot into windows and THEN do that. There is NOTHING in device manager that you CAN or SHOULD do in regard to removing or cleaning up the old drivers and reinstalling new ones.

I can't install it when i plug my cable into it and it wont give a signal

What are ALL of your hardware model numbers/specs? Motherboard, CPU, graphics card, power supply (Don't just say 500w. Find the model number. It will on the specifications sticker somewhere on the power supply.) etc.

Without knowing ALL of that information, it's impossible to even guess at what your problem is. Off the top of my head I'd suggest that perhaps you have it installed in the wrong slot (Needs to be installed in the long slot closest to the CPU, in most cases.) or you have failed to attach the necessary supplemental power cables to it from the power supply if it is a card that requires more power than what the slot only can provide.

It's also possible that if you bought this card used, it's just no good.

My specs are:
i54460 @3.2ghz
GTX970
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz
ASRock B85 Pro4 motherboard
Corsair VS650 500Watts

What happened was I uninstalled everything to do with the gpu from device manager, then restarted my pc expecting an automatic driver download which never happened. I tried to download drivers from Nvidia manually but it wouldn't work saying that no compatible hardware could be found. I must have deleted something important which can't be retrieved. The gpu is also inserted to the correct PCI-E express slot.

Did you ever remove the GPU card from the slot during this whole process? At any point? If so, make sure it's fully seated and locked into place. Nothing AT ALL in Windows could have any effect on the GPU card not working BEFORE it begins booting into the windows environment. If the card was working there would be the bios post screen, at least, not a "no signal" screen.

Something has to have changed PHYSICALLY in order for it to have worked before but not now, at least prior to Windows starting to load. If you can't see anything on screen like bios or POST information, then something is physically not right. Double check cables, pins, reseat the card.

Might also try unplugging the PSU from the wall, with the power off of course, and then removing your CMOS battery from the motherboard for maybe two minutes, then reinstalling it, plug the PSU back in and start the system. See if there is still no signal.

Yes I had removed it and reinstalled it a few times as I was having problems with it (display not working) so I used the integrated graphics to uninstall its drivers and try to restart the gpu. I will now try to take out PSU and CMOS battery.

You don't need to remove the PSU. Just unplug it or turn the switch on the back of it off, then remove the battery, then put everything back and try again. Also, make sure you reconnected the power cables going to it from the power supply, as I and others have mentioned. Make certain that the power cables (PCI) going to it from the power supply are fully seated. If one of them is not, it will not work.

I have taken out and replaced the CMOS battery, placed the gpu back in its slot and made sure the 8-pin power is in it. The gpu is still not detected by the pc. Will i need to restart my pc with the hdmi going into the gpu?

Well yeah, it's not going to do anything if there is no display attached to the GPU card. You need to NOT having any display cable connected to the motherboard iGPU output and ONLY have a cable attached to the discreet GPU card in order for it to be recognized.

Unfortunately that doesn't work either. I may have to buy a new card...
