GPU Core usage percentage and overclocking?

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question. After overclocking my GPU (slightly ~5% higher than base) I've noticed my GPU core usage percentage (and temps) has gone up significantly while in-game (from around 60% to 90%). The FPS is about the same and it has gotten rid of some stuttering or screen tearing I was noticing before. Is this normal? Should I stop overclocking it? Thanks.

If you are still getting tearing with v-sync, you could have a signal error. Make sure your cables are connected well. You might want to drop a few more settings so you can maintain 60 FPS in those low spots. It might not take much compromise to get you to hold 60 FPS.
ok.

1.-wich gpu do you have?

2.- 5% of oc is too low to notice a fps boost.

3.- depends of the the game to , some games are not well optimaced.

3.- you need at least 15 % minimum to notice a boost of your fps.

4.- wich game are you playing?

5.- are you using msi afterburner?

Sorry I didn't post this earlier.

1.-wich gpu do you have?

EVGA GTX 980ti Hybrid

2.- 5% of oc is too low to notice a fps boost.

Raised the core clock from 1140 to 1210 mhz (without boost) ~1450 boosted
Rasied the mem 350 mhz to about 3850Mhz
Didn't touch the voltage (scared)

3.- depends of the the game to , some games are not well optimaced.

TESO is the game. 3,840 x 2,160 maxed out, but I get a weird tearing or stutter in large towns. FPS does drop a bit but stays above 30 (so I don't think I should see it) and goes away at lower res. This small boost seems to have gotten rid of the problem, just concerned about usage. Temps still below 70 (highest I've ever seen though)

3.- you need at least 15 % minimum to notice a boost of your fps.
Not trying to boost FPS, just get rid of artifact

4.- wich game are you playing?
^

5.- are you using msi afterburner?
EVGA Precision X 16

I know it seems like I'm complaining about nothing, I just want to be careful as I'm pretty new to overclocking. Especially since I bought a card that dropped to half its price in just a few months 🙁

Quick edit:

I don't know why but I thought core usage would go down with OC as the headroom would be higher, but now that I think about it I would be the opposite right (it's being utilized more)?

well,

1.- intall the newest driver , using nvidia driver wiper.

2.- use msi afterburner and the plug in to make the quick bech to find artifacts.

4.- whit 980ti you are in the high pc gaming i think its more about setup of drivers and s.o

are you using windows 10? are you using vsinc in the specs of game?

The only reason for the GPU usage to go up, and the FPS to have a significant boost is if you also have V-sync on, with a game that uses a double buffering system. Basically you are getting just enough of a boost to go from not being able to keep up with your refresh rate, to just barely keeping up often enough, that your FPS has a significant boost.

Yes, this makes sense. V-sync is on or the tearing is much worse. The only thing that baffles me me is that the GPU usage is still not 100% and I still get FPS drops (from 60 down to mid 30's), I have a 4790k @ 4.5Ghz (and CPU usage never reaches 100% on a single core). This shouldn't be noticeable on my monitor (60hz) but I still got that weird tearing. With this small overclock the tearing went away, but it did increase the load on the GPU quite a bit.

TLDR; I guess my question for the tread is what should happen to your GPU usage percentage when you overclock? And a follow up of, are the numbers for my GPU OC safe?
