GPU/CPU upgrade advice needed

Hello all!

I'm looking to upgrade a 5-6 years old computer in order to be able to play some recent games at 1080p. Here's what I have:

CPU: i7 2600k oc at 4.5Ghz
GPU: Radeon 6900 2GB
MOBO: Sabertooth P67
RAM: 16GB of DDR3

Would it be as simple as replacing the GPU to a gtx 1060/1070 6GB? Or should I also be looking into replacing the CPU/MOBO aswell?

Unless you want DDR4 and newer generation processors, you'll do fine with your current cpu and mobo. Since you OCed your CPU I suggest a 1070.

consider going to 1080 + 1080p@144 monitor instead

the 1070's pricing is still pretty unstable so it's better to go with the GTX 1080
you CPU is still pretty decent even for nowday's standard

u don't need to upgrade anything, unless u're going on a whole new rig (platform upgrade) with the upcoming Coffelake / Ryzen
but simply upgrading your GPU would already boost your gaming performance by a mile imo

Just get the gtx 1060 and you are fine for 1080p gaming .you don't need to worry unless u upgrade to 1440p or 4k or high refresh rate monitors any time soon
