GPU Fan goes into Max Speed, and the monitor enters Power Saving mode

Hey There Guys!.

I'm having an issue, and i really don't know what it is....

A few days ago, I started having a problem, on which my computer would freeze and restart, or freeze until restarted.

at that time i was using Windows 8.1, which is working like a charm on my laptop.

Decided to re-install Windows 7, here's what's happening now.

Randomly or immediately after reaching windows, The Fan on the GPU Starts running at Max Speed, then the Screen goes dark, and the monitor enters Power Saving mode, everything stays on, but unless I restart the pc, the screen won't come back.

My Specs:

PSU: OCZ Fatal1ty 750W Modular PSU (Purchased December 2010)

GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 550 Ti AMP Edition. (Purchased January 2012)

Motherboard: ASUS M5A99X-Evo (Purchased July 2012)

CPU: AMD Athlon FX-8120 Black Edition (Purchased July 2012) (With Aftermarket Cooler Master Hyper 212)

RAM: G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1333Mhz 8GB (2 4GB Modules) (Purchased July 2012)

HDDS: 2x Western Digital 500 Gb Blue. 1x Western Digital 250GB.

Chassis: Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced Nvidia Edition. (With Additional Coolers)

Any Suggestions will be welcomed... as...if I can determine the exact component would be awesome... Computer Parts are way too expensive around here... =(

It could be a bug with your drivers, I know I had a similar issue which went after I upgraded my gpu drivers.

Otherwise it could be cooling, bad connection, motherboard battery etc etc.

Well, as for the Drivers, I Installed the latest Nvidia Drivers, and this happened...so i started going backwards, but ... still the same.

I have the Case with Cable Management, 2 140mm Exhaust on top, a server exhaust on the back, 2 120mm intakes on the bottom, and an intake on the front.... and CPU temp knowing here is summer and it's pretty hot are around 40° C for the CPU and around 35° C for the Motherboard...

Videocard is going around 45°C on iddle

Well temperature isn't too much of an issue then. Do you know if your gpu powers up when the monitor goes onto power saving mode?

The whole system stays on.. all Fans working... and the GPU Fan going at max speed... it's weird... i don't know, will test with a different GPU

It's a funny kink, see if a different card helps, if it does then we know it's specifically related to your cpu, if not then I'm at a dead end sorry.

I'll try that...still i hope is not the CPU... XD

Worst case scenario it may be the motherboard.

I totally disassembled my rig down to the last bit…

Took apart the Graphics Card… found the Thermal paste, was all around the Chip instead of being on top of it…making contact with the Heatsink.
Cleaned…replaced the Thermal Paste on both… CPU and GPU, Cleared the CMOS, verified the TPU and the EPU where disabled from the physical switches.
Replaced all the Case fans with new Cooler Master Silent… which are connected mostly to the Motherboard and Three of them to the PSU Directly, added a second fan to the Hyper 212 and changed the Direction of the Heatsink towards the Top of the Case.
Took Apart the PSU, Cleaned, verified that no Physical damage or anomalies where present, Re-assembled and placed on the CASE.

After all this what took me a considerable amount of time, as I like to do things very very calmly… I powered on the Rig…

Got to the Desktop… waited for a few minutes fooling around with the desktop, verifying the temps on the MSI Afterburner and the ASUS AI Sensor.
GPU on idle didn’t go over 35° C and CPU was around 40° to 45° on idle.

Ran a stress test for 10 minutes on max settings with the MSI Kombustor.

Video card reached 90° C (With Anti aliasing 8x) and CPU at 60° C MAX.

Ran a second stress for another 10 minutes

Video Card temps 75 – 85 ° C (With no Anti Aliasing) and CPU at 56° C

On both cases Motherboard stayed at 34 – 38 ° C.

So, it seems it was either I was using too many extensions and connectors on one of the Modular Cables from the PSU, or the weird Thermal Compound setting on the GPU.

I didn’t need to re-install windows, or test the rest of the settings suggested earlier.

Yet Again, thank you for your effort on helping me with the Issue!, that gave me the idea for a few things in the process.

As of now, the thing is solved! And I’m happy I only had to buy 4 Fans!
