GPU fan starts and stops

This is my first build, and when I fit in all my components, the gpu fan runs for 2 seconds, stops for 1 second, then runs for 2 seconds, then stops .etc......

Also, I don't get any signal on my monitor.

I have tried the gpu in another pc and it works. I tried another gpu on my pc and that didn't work.

I thought it was the motherboard, so I returned the motherboard I originally had and bought a new one, and I get the same problem.

Specs:
GPU: PowerColor HD7790 1GB GDDR5 OC (V2)

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 760k Black Edition

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-HD3

RAM: Integral PC3-12800 DDR3

Monitor: Hanns-G HE225DPB 21.5" DVI+VGA Monitor

I'm with JuX above - seems like a power issue. Are all connectors securely seated on your GPU? There are 1 or 2 power connectors, depending on the card.

I had a similar issue with a new build. You need to rule out all other components.

Since you did various steps, I think its either the RAM or CPU.

Some motherboards have status codes/LEDs.... that display what is wrong. Unsure on that model. But the slightest issue with AMD in how you seat it/clamp it it'll complain and give off an LED error. I was once confused with a AMD build also. Had a "red" LED on a Asus board....I was thinking oh crap...board for sure. I stuck with the basics. Remove components and re-seat/re-do.


You've - ruled out PSU and motherboard/video card. Leaves CPU/RAM to complete the post.
Try:
Remove all components/connections.
Remove the cpu/heatsink and re-apply/latch back to the board.
Place in video card
Remove and re-seat the RAM.
Connect all power connections to the above.


If it still does not post remove one stick of ram, try it. Same issue, Remove the one stick already tested, and place in the one other. Test it.

If it still does not post, Its most likely the CPU at fault, when it seems its the motherboard.

Secondly.... I read about posting issues as a result of installing the motherboard incorrectly. It could be shorting all components out, thus not posting. If the standoffs are not installed correctly and it seems the board is touching the case, this could happen.

Lastly, If you buy a cheap case, It can fry a board even if its installed right. I returned one.... Never again will i not buy a good name brand.

What is required to post and rule out.... Power Supply, RAM, CPU w/ heatsink, Video - Everything else can remain unconnected.

Still same problem, processor is new one and only got one 8gb ram, what else can be problem, is it worth returning processor back to the retailer or is there anyway both processor and ram can be checked, haven't got any other similar computers??

Blah that sucks. Did you try the 8GB stick in various slots?

Other than all of which you did, You may need to bring it into a place. Some places offer free checks.

That's the unfortunate part. If one of the many pieces are at fault, it will not post properly to show the video. Unless you have spare parts (CPU/RAM) then i think were out of steps to try.

May need to bring it in. Indicate to them you did x steps (new motherboard, PSU various things) and ask to find the fault. Some places have free estimates. Unfortunately there is no magic to it. Its one of the various pieces mentioned that requires the unit to post.

That sometimes can happen with new builds. The bad part is we never have spare parts.
