GPU Fans not spinning even when overheating

Lately I've been noticing that my Graphics Cards fans aren't spinning. I thought it was normal because the computer wasn't warm/hot enough to need them running. Then my PC started to lock up and the GPU wouldn't output a signal. I later found that my graphics card had been getting very hot especially during gaming and video editing (Premiere Pro). The temp sometimes got up to the 90 degrees Celsius range and the fans were still not running at all. I'm nervous and I really don't want to buy another computer/GPU :/. Any help would be appreciated

Specs:
Windows 10
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Graphics 8GB GDDR5
Intel Core i5-6400 2.70GHz
1 TB HDD
8 GB RAM

First of all, as far as the warranty goes, they can't do that. It's illegal. You have to right to repair or troubleshoot anything that you own. If you screw it up though, while you are in there, THEN they can certainly void the warranty. They would have to PROVE that the failure was due to you being in there though, and financially that is not worth the fight to them when they can much more cheaply simply accept the cost of the warranty.

If it were me, or anybody I do work for, that case would already be...

No I bought it as a pre-built (cheaper than building a PC)

*also I pretty new to this and I didn't mean to vote down on your reply :) *

No worries. I could care less about that stuff. Although, if you hadn't said it was an accident I probably would have told you so long since you didn't like my opinions. Heh.

So, is this system still under warranty? How long ago did you buy it, and from where?

Yes it is, I only bought it earlier this month off of Newegg

Its an MSI GTX 1070 Card, and yes I use Afterburner to monitor it. I was playing around with the fan controls and it doesn't do anything. I also played Beam.NG Drive to test to see if the temp. was going up while I was playing and it was. I eventually had to stop playing or else it would've overheated and locked up my computer again.

If your fans won't run even if you override the "auto" feature in Afterburner (turn off Auto button and push slider to 100%) then it's RMA time for sure. Nothing else could be causing this issue.

Thats not what I wanted to hear 🙁 Thx anyways

Okay, one last "grasping at straws" thought: have you tried re-seating the power connectors? I don't know, but maybe one solely supplies the fans (I assume it has two six pin connectors)? Check at both the GPU and PSU ends before you throw in the towel.

I want to open up the PC but if I do the Warranty is Void (unless I'm wrong and I don't have too). IDK if theres anyway of getting around that. If that wasn't there, I would've already checked a ton of things by now

Well then I would email their tech support and see if they will make an exception (after documenting the coversation and serial numbers or whatever). They may decide they'd rather have you try that rather than exchanging it. If you bought it via the internet they might do that to avoid shipping expenses. If you bought it at a store I would just bring it back, period.

Hmm, I would contact MSI first and if they say "yes, open it up" then contact Newegg and fill them in on the details BEFORE you proceed and see if they're okay with that. Just cover your butt all the way to be safe.

It's ok, Thanks for the Help though! definitely using this site again :)

You're welcome! I hope you decide to get into building your own rigs someday- it's really not hard at all and you can get more for your $. Plus, it really helps when it comes to troubleshooting, since you put it together. :)

I've actually built two computers. They weren't very good but could do what I needed it to do at the time. Both later died due to the hard drive failing/breaking so I just decided to get a pre built as it was a little cheaper than building another PC and coming from a PC that had GTX 750 TI, I don't think there's any harm in getting a pre built. But in the future I will probably build one instead :)

If it were me, or anybody I do work for, that case would already be open and anything that needed looking at would have been done had eyeballs on it. I'd suggest you try what was suggested and if there is still no love, then begin the RMA process. But that's totally up to you and I fully understand if you are a bit too skittish to mess with it. Not everybody is up to it. No harm in it.

Also, it's NEVER cheaper to get a prebuilt unit. You can pretty much always build a nearly identical system to anything available out there that's prebuilt. Consider, they have to make money on it and they really don't get the parts, not any good ones anyhow, any cheaper than you do, so there will always be a profit factor involved which either means skimping somewhere (Usually on cheap motherboards and power supplies. Really cheap cases too most of the time) or charging more for an identical build.

Also guys, I cleaned up that mess of mile long quotes you guys had going. You don't need to quote for every response, and if you do quote, take the time to remove the old quotes in the quoted text so that it's not a mile long. No big, just much easier to follow a thread that way.

Solution
Hey everybody, I fixed it without having to return it!

I went into my PC and figured out that a plug hooking up the fans to the power supply were loose. I plugged it in and now the fan works perfectly fine. Thanks for all the help guys!

See, I told you so. Manufacturers simply put those rules in place to keep the majority of people who probably don't belong inside, from going inside, but it doesn't have a legal leg to stand on if you had to enforce it. Courts have already ruled and made precidence against such tampering warnings long ago, and recently as well.

Glad you were able to get it fixed. Guessing maybe you would not have if I hadn't pushed you a little bit. Good luck.
