I was just wondering why the GPU (or my GPU anyway) gets hotter if you minimise a game? For instance, I'll minimise The Witcher 3 to do something else, and the GPU temperature will keep on increasing up to 60-70 degrees.
As Bossyfins stated 60c-70c is normal for GPU's during heavy loads such as when playing Witcher 3. Even though you are not in game, the program is still running and sending information to the GPU which is still being processed. For example, if you are running a virus scan and it is minimized, does you CPU still work to complete the scan? The same concept applied here with the GPU.
What is the temp of your GPU when playing with the game not minimized? I am willing to bet the same temps...
Actually, no, they're not. Whilst I'm playing the game it's around 40-50 degrees. But if it's paused and minimised, and nothing is happening in the game, it seems strange to me that it would climb up.
Currently have it minimised whilst I have a game downloading in the background and using the net and it's around 58 degrees; it's not even climbing this time. Odd.
Try running a stress test or benchmark program (i.e. PassMark or 3DMark). If the temps rise and fall with the work load being put on the card, there is nothing to worry about.
