I have a laptop, Toshiba Satellite P875-S7102, that turns itself off at 30 minutes, consistently.
Out of the box it was Windows 8.0. Now running at Windows 10.
I have clocked the laptop running time, from start to shut down at 30 minutes, using a stop watch and the on-board CPU Uptime clock. Right about 30 minutes it shuts itself off completely and there is an audible, mechanical click when it happens.
Hoping it might be an OS issue, I have set the power settings to "Never", for Shut Downs and Sleeping, but this has had no effect.
I was able to (after considerable efforts) get the laptop to boot from a USB drive into Unix Mint. It still shut down in 30 minutes, leaving me now to believe that it is a mechanical issue. It really seems like it's a overload tripping event. Possibly over heating? But if it's overheating, why is it shutting down at exactly the same time, each time. I've tested the shutdown time eight times in a row on my first fix attempt. Twice on a second attempt with the Unix USB stick. The event is consistent. And by the way, the fan is working.
Can anyone give me some suggestions? I don't want to start changing parts in a wild goose chase.
Is there some stress tests I can run on the cooling fan, or other component that might give me some insight?
