Question GPU hotspot increase after reapplying thermal paste

I have an AMD 6650XT and I recently decided to reapply its thermal paster after getting high core and hotspot temps while under load (85 and 95). After reapplying thermal paste (MX-4), the core temps dropped to 75 under load but the hotspot temps increased to 105-108!

I have read online that it's probably due to me putting the block back on incorrectly, but after trying 4 times, nothing seems to have changed.

Any suggestions on what to do?

P.S. it seems to make a faint hissing/ticking sound now, but I could've missed it before. I'm also tightening the mounting screws to max, should I not?

UPDATE: I have applied PTM7950 and my core temps dropped by about 5 degrees but my hotspot temps went from 110 to 80 degrees!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

I have an AMD 6650XT
Which 6650XT do you have?

Thermal paste tends to have a break in period, so give it a few days and see what your temps are like. As for your screws/mounting, they should be finger tight, not torqued or stripped beyond removal.

Thanks for the reply. I have now screwed it tightly. I have a msi mech 2x 8gb 6650xt oc edition. I will report back in a few days with the condition of the temps.
I am considering repasting again but with more thermal paste, or applying PTM7950. Which one would you recommend?
