Question GPU Idle Temps Are High When Afterburner is Not Open

Hello, I have a 3070ti which is only 3-4 months old. Bought it brand new. When I do not have MSI Afterburner open, my idle GPU temps are 50-55. When I open MSI Afterburner (and have to keep it open), my idle temps are 35. Why is it doing this and is this normal? If it is not, can someone please help?

Have you a created a custom GPU fan curve/profile with MSI AB ? So maybe when you open the app, the fans start to kick in becuase you might have created a fan profile for the GPU, for a certain TEMP value ?

Exact Make and Model of your GPU ? Does the card feature a FAN STOP feature, the "0dB" tech, which means the fans won't spin unless a certain Temp threshold value is reached, e.g. 55-60 C ?

Provide full PC specs as well. Also, as a side note, try doing a CLEAN re-install and update of the GPU drivers as well.

Hello, I would like to not have to open the app. I want to have it idle the way it does when Afterburner is open. I did create a custom profile for my GPU but thought once I applied the profile it would default. I have a Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070ti 8gb VRAM. I do not know how to check for that stop feature. That could easily be it as well. How can I disable that?

Need to know the exact GPU model and brand. Which company's card is it ? ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte or some other ?

For MSI AB, you can try deleting all the custom made FAN/voltage curve profiles, or better, just completely uninstall MSI AB for the time being.

sorry for too many typos I'm making here..

Haha it is ok. I forgot to say it is a gigabyte GPU. I also undervolted my GPU because I heard with the 3070tis there is an overheating issue. I can uninstall MSI Afterburner or delete my fan settings.

Try removing the MSI AB profiles, restart your system, and see how it goes. But if your GPU has the fan stop feature, the fans again won't kick in unless manually started via any app.

You still haven't mentioned the exact model number of your GPU though. Gigabyte is the brand.

As per this database there are 6 models in total, and I'm almost certain all these cards have Gigabyte's "3D Active Fan" semi-passive cooling tech, where fans will remain off when the GPU is in a low load or low power game.
