[SOLVED] GPU instantly 84 degrees when gaming - would a new case help?

Hello - I've recently built my first gaming PC (specs below) and when I play games the GPU pretty much instantly reaches 84 degrees and makes my room a furnace especially on hotter days. Is this normal/healthy for my PC / would a case with better airflow make a worthwhile difference?

  • Case: NZXT H510 Mid Tower
  • GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2080 SUPER WINDFORCE OC
  • CPU: Intel i9 10900K
  • RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 3600MHz
  • PSU: be quiet! Straight Power 11 80+ Platinum 750 Watt Modular
  • MOBO: MSI MPG Intel Z490 GAMING EDGE ATX
  • CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X63 AIO 280mm
  • M.2 SSD: Samsung 970 EVO PLUS
  • Other fans: 1 x top mounted 120mm, 1 x rear mounted 120mm

Solution
I think there is a good chance it is normal.
If you run a GPU at near 100% the temp climbs very fast.
I run three GPUS and all peak at 82C.
I don't find 84C unusual.
If you ambient is 2C warmer than mine is....that would explain it.

Thanks for your reply under minimal load it sits around 40-44 degrees. I was hoping a case with a mesh front and 2 top mounted fans might help improve airflow enough to bring it down to the 70 degree range.

I've also just notices that even when <5% load the clock speed is 100% (1605MHz) from searching online seems to be mixed whether that is normal or not, any ideas?

"under minimal load it sits around 40-44 degrees. "
seems normal

I wouldn't be surprised if you...or I...never get in the 70s.

I bet if I took the side of my case off I wouldn't get that low.

Are you running more than one display?

Fair enough, yep 2 x 27-inch 1440p 165hz monitors

It looks like have 2x140mm intakes via the radiator and 2x120mm exhaust (at the top and rear)?

So maybe your GPU temperature is slightly high because you're blowing hot CPU radiator air across your GPU?

Why not replace the top 120mm with a 140mm? You can get more airflow at the same sound level, or lower noise with the same airflow.

I'm not sure how much that will help, but it would be easy to do.

Try to undervolt the GPU, this will lower the temperature and give you stable clocks, it is fine if you lose 100Mhz, it will be only 2-3% less performance in exchange of -10c. Just give it a try it is totally worth it.

You can also play with your case and GPU fans curve.
