GPU looks like it Won't fit in Motherboard

Hey everybody

I'm having some foreseeable complications. I'm upgrading an HP Envy 750-114 to be a decent gaming computer. I'm buying an overclocked R9 390 with a backplate later today off a friend and it looks like it won't fit at all. (I'm not worried about bottlenecking, just future-proofing my computer)

This is the closest thing to what my motherboard looks like:

So as you can see it looks like any video card over 1 cm too large won't be able to fit because of the RAM slots being in the way.

I've looked into PCIe extenders but they all look finicky and harmful to my computer.

Can I just remove the backplate? If not, what's my best option here?

I don't see any problems. Are you worried that the backplate will hit the memory slot locking tabs? Because if that is your concern, it won't hit them unless they are open.

Yes exactly. Look at this forum post for example:

This person ran into the same problem, and when he pushes down to insert his graphics card he opens his RAM slots.

Now, on THAT board it looks like a gfx card with a backplate will be a problem. If you are going to keep that board, you better look for acard w/o a backplate. I have 3 cards w/backplates. They all extend a little less than 3/16" from center of the Cards' edge connectors.
(You better be careful with that loose 6 pin cable around those spinning fans*)

*Edit: Sorry. I just noticed the "loose 6-pin cable" wasn't loose after all. It is part of the 4+4 pin cable plugged into the motherboard.
