Hi, I just bought a EVGA 4 GB GeForce GTX 960, AMD FX 6300, and MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard. I already had a case a 525 w powersupply, SSD drice, Hard Disk Drive, 8 GB RAM, so on so forth. I put the computer together, plugged everything in without graphics and it booted fine (no graphics at all, so not sure if there were any errors on screen, but no beeps or anything). Then I installed the Graphics card, which required an 8-pin connection, I used the included 2-6pin to 8pin adapter and booted it up. There was no output. fans stuttered and seemed to try to get going but didnt really go at all, the seemed to flicker every few seconds. what is wrong why won't it boot up, it's brand new?

Solution
Did you check to see if bios is reading the socket gpu instead of the built in gpu? You could plug in a usb card to check the sockets to make sure they work. Also pull your cpu and make sure none of the pins bent when you put it in.
Sounds like you need a bigger power supply. If the GPU pulles too much power it will flicker fans and lights. I had this problem on my second build. Try unpluging unneeded things like any external hdd, network cards, lights and see if there is a change.

It wasnt. I borrowed a 750w psu and installed that. I have called evga and got a replacement on the way after i tried all my sockets. But did i do the right thing? I have no way of telling if my motherboard and cpu are working for sure, i just dont here any beeping so im assuming im in the clear, but am i wrong? Could my sockets be bad on my brand new motherboard? Or what.

There is no built in graphics, its amd. I have no way to get any graphics except through graphics card. The pins all look good. As i said it seems to boot up fine its just no graphics output.

So you should get a beep when you first start it up even with out a gpu. My computer started something similar last night after it got kicked by accident. Im still working on it, but it starts fans/lights kick on hdd spins up, but no video at all not even bios and both screens dont register any input. Im still trying to figure out what is going on, but when I put only one stick of ram in it boots with video. I think there is a problem in my bios settings that I will be checking after work. Its a long shot but pull all but one stick of ram and see what happens.

So, just got done some crazy shifts at work, i realized i don't have a speaker in my case, haha, so it could be trying to beep like crazy, or not, I don't know. I think it may be my ram though, its been sitting in a metal drawer for 2 years so im going to order some new ram and maybe a new PSU for kicks. Should be getting it in a week or two. if that doesnt fix it im going to RMA everything since its brand new. Thank you
