gpu not working is sli the problem?

Hey guys
I bought this gtx 780 from someone i saw it working and bought it. He had the card in sli and gave it to me
Without removing then i put it in my pc and i get stuck in bios splash screen (cant do anything) my old AMD card works... Can it be that he had to remove sli before handing it over to me?

No that wouldnt be the problem.

Whats your full specs? Some motherboards need a bios update for newer cards, so may be worth updating your bios to the newest version.
