Gpu overheating causes big fps drop

Hello!
Since about two months I can't play any game I used to run before because of big fps drops. My laptop is ASUS X556UJ ,cpu Intel I7-6500u, gpu geforce 920m, 8 GB ram,W10.
Although the games are demanding(F1 2017,FIFA 18) I was able to run them at minimum specs. I noticed that my gpu is overheating while playing games reaching 92°C (gpu idle temp is 40-45°C).
I cleaned the fan but nothing changed. Could you help me?

Solution
Ofcourse it would.
GPUs have a Safe Temperature operating line, if you cross that line. The GPU will lower its clocks in order to prevail and save the GPU health.
A poorly Refrigerated GPU will suffer of what is called Thermal Throttle, which is this lowering of clocks.
My recomendation is: Clean the Whole laptop (by opening it), get a Cooler base for your laptop, play on cool ambients (24 degrees or less) and lastly if you wish to use the maximum performance of it. Get a cooling pad for that GPU.

Those idle temps seem high. Have you taken the back off and cleaned all the dust out?

Redoing the thermal past on the GPU/CPU could improve temps if you are comfortable with taking your laptop apart.

A cooling stand/pad is always a good thing for increasing air flow and reducing temps

The cleaning was done by a technician but he didn't apply new thermal paste. He said that the old one is okay. Furthermore CPU temperature seems good...could the GPU be damaged or does it worth reopen the laptop and change thermal paste?
