GPU Problem :(

Recently I bought the XFX R9 280x. It has been fit correctly but my PC doesn't seem to connect with it properly. Its not the power supply because I have a 750w and that's more than enough, and the card itself is not faulty because it works with a friends PC. I thing it might be the motherboard though, I don't know if it is compatible, I should of checked that before I bought it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks

Also, I cannot tell you what motherboard it is at the moment because my friend is trying to get it to work with my PC so I have to use an old laptop.

We need a few more details. When you say it doesn't connect properly, do you not get video signal at all? Is it distorted? Does it crash?

the PC still uses the onboard gpu. there is power getting to the new one because the fans spin, is there anything else you need?

im no expert on pc parts, all i do is play the games but it still uses the in built gpu

You're hooking the monitor to the video card and not the motherboard, right?

You prob have the BIOS directing the video to the on-board GPU, need to change primary video to the PCI-E or PEG and connect the cable to the GPU card
