Hi all.

I'm considering upgrading from my Palit 3060 12GB to the TUF 3080 v2, however I'm unsure whether my PSU will suffice so I'm hoping you guys can offer some input into models.

This is my current setup. I bought all the parts brand new about 10 or 11 months ago, so everything's working smooth as butter.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor (£185.47 @ Scan.co.uk)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock TF 67.8 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI B450M MORTAR MAX Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory (£79.58 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Western Digital Blue SN550 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (£85.49 @ Box Limited)
Video Card: Palit GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB Dual OC Video Card (£354.99 @ AWD-IT)
Case: NZXT H500 ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: SeaSonic FOCUS GX 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (£85.47 @ Scan.co.uk)
Case Fan: ARCTIC P14 72.8 CFM 140 mm Fan (£9.51 @ Amazon UK)
Case Fan: ARCTIC P12 56.3 CFM 120 mm Fan (£4.99 @ Amazon UK)
Monitor: iiyama G-MASTER GB2560HSU-B1 24.5" 1920x1080 144 Hz Monitor

I'm running Win11 x64.

Ideally, I'd like to buy something around the £100 mark.

I find enormous peace of mind going with Seasonic, however, since Scan's suggesting it, would the Corsair RM850x Gold be a solid choice?

Thanks in advance.

Really, 1kW+? But this table linked in the PSU section of Tom's Hardware suggests a 700W PSU for a 3080, and in this video Optimum Tech measures a ~510W draw at the wall. And I just noticed he's running the PSU I linked in my first post.

Why the need for such a large capacity?

Most high tier PSU will run 30% above their rated capacity just fine for short amounts of time, plenty to deal with the transient spikes. i would not worry about it too much if you go with an A tier rated unit such as the Be Quiet Straight power 11 750w or even a B tier unit would do such as the Supernova GT 850w
