GPU Refresh or complete system refresh

Hey Guys,

I'm running currently a first get i7 processor, 6GB RAM and a GTX 480, the system was built in 2010.

I've been wanting to get back into PC Gaming and with Black Friday/Cyber Monday around the corner am thinking now would be a good time to upgrade.

My question is that to play today's games at 4K resolution (I have a Dell 27" 4K monitor) and also act as a steambox (hook up to a 1080p tv either directly or via steam link), what do you guys say I should do. GPU refresh or is the entire system worth an overhaul.

And then, what should I get.

thanks in advance!

Games haven't been pushing CPU's anywhere near as hard as they have in previous years. I would go with the GPU refresh as it will give the biggest boost in gaming and streaming performance. After that then you'd be looking at getting a new CPU, Mobo, and RAM.

Rather than start a new thread, I figured let me just resurrect my original one since I actually didn't do anything then.

The CPU is the i7-930 btw.

Now that the GTX 1080 and 1070 is out, it seems now is a good time to upgrade.

My main reason is to get the Oculus Rift. So I'm thinking the GTX 1080 is the way to go.

My question is do I need to upgrade my CPU/MB/RAM as well? Intel recently refreshed their lineup too I think so there's nothing "game changing" around the corner... but if I can do VR with the current set up plus the GTX 1080 then why spend money if I don't need to...

Advice?

Much thanks in advance :)
