My friend just built his first pc and it went smoothly. Everything works fine but when we try and load into any game the GPU shuts off, fans stop spinning and the monitor goes black. This happened in 2 games and we have no idea why. CPU and GPU temperatures are fine. anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I was gonna try using a different PSU tomorrow and putting his graphics card into my rig to eliminate GPU failure.

Hi @heyoimbrando

1st off, Welcome to the forums!

2nd, I have that exact same GPU in my daughters PC. It's a really good card. :) As for your comment about swapping out the PSU, that's a good place to start. Whats the exact model of PSU is it? We have several members here that know just about everything there is about PSU's so they'll be able to look at your unit to verify if it's good or bad. If it's a good unit, 500w is plenty for your system.

How much RAM do you have installed and whats it's speed? XMP profile set in the Bios?
Which 2 games does the system freeze at?
Whats your OS?
Is your 1600 OC'd any?

A little more info please & again welcome!

for ram he has - GeIL EVO Potenza 16gb 2x8gb 3000mhz ddr4 (we went into the bios and changed to the necessary XMP settings)
the exact model of the psu is a EVGA 500 BR 80+, link right here https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-100-BR-...00+watt+power+supply+br&qid=1586942515&sr=8-2

I do believe the GPU is overclocked as the 1060 he got is a SC version but we went into MSI afterburner and clocked it down a bit and it did nothing, link to his GPU here https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-gtx-1060-03g-p4-6162-kr/p/N82E16814487267?Item=N82E16814487267&nm_mc=AFC-RAN-COM&cm_mmc=AFC-RAN-COM&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=afc-PCPartPicker&AFFID=2558510&AFFNAME=PCPartPicker&ACRID=1&ASID=https://pcpartpicker.com/product/pKX2FT/evga-geforce-gtx-1060-3gb-sc-gaming-video-card-03g-p4-6162&ranMID=44583&ranEAID=2558510&ranSiteID=8BacdVP0GFs-iRKFFG.BdlojGM.usKx7zg

we tried running both CS;GO and GTA 5. Both load up for about 20 seconds then his monitor would go black and the gpu fan would stop spinning. But the case fans and CPU cooler fan remained on.

His PC is running on Windows 10 Home 64x
