i've seen similar threads on this forum but none of them have helped me so i'll try here.
I have a gtx 570 which has been going fine until this week when it suddenly started overheating after i installed Tomb Raider (2013). It idles at 50-60 C and stays there when i'm for instance watching youtube videos, but as soon as i play any game the temperature skyrockets to 100 very quickly (<5 min) and then the pc crashes - screen goes black but M&K still responsive, meanwhile GPU fan goes on full blast.

I've since
-uninstalled Tomb Raider
-cleaned the fan/heatsink
-clean nvidia driver reinstall (multiple times and different versions, now on 359.00). note: before the first reinstall, it would heat up even while idle - start at 60 and just slowly climb to 90+. this more than anything is what makes me think it's a malware issue.
-win10x64 reinstall (kept programs and files)
-full scan with malwarebytes and symantec

the only thing i can think of doing at this point is reapply thermal paste, but i don't think it's a hardware issue, more likely my install of tomb raider was infected, but i don't know how to fix it. can't do system restore because all the restore points vanished in the win10 reinstall.

update: have applied thermal paste to no effect. still probably a malware issue, someone pls help.

yes fan is spinning fine, not sure exactly how much thermal paste i used, but enough. since then i've tried putting a clean ubuntu install on a separate harddrive and testing there - no difference, which at least proves i was wrong about the malware. took the video card to a few repair shops which were of the opinion that the gpu was fried, but didn't test it (not worth for me to have them test for $50 when the card cost me $100 to begin with). at this point i'll probably just wait until nvidia releases their next gen of cards and get one next year - this one still works fine for everything but games, and even then i can always play league.
