my sapphire HD 7870 XT was fine a while ago, max temp was 68 c when gaming far cry 4.. but now suddenly Temp are up to 77 c with 65% fan speed when gaming assassins creed black flag, on idle temp are fine at 29 c, and the rest of the components are at a fine temps too.

i've cleaned my case from dust and installed another case fan, now the temps are between 73-75 c with 60% fan speed.. but still that is not the normal temps i used to have especially we are in winter now.

can anyone tell me what might be the problem? i would appreciate it.

P.S: im not overclocking my gpu, but recently i used to game a lot than before and that's when my gpu temps got higher.

my gpu is 3+ years old.

Solution
i spread a thin layer of thermal grease, just enough for the gpu core. make sure you clean off the excess. i haven't tried that product before. maybe you can find a review on some other site.

please be careful and if possible watch videos of how it is done properly.
kindly check your GPU usage. this will cause an increase in temperature. i had a GPU once that was having high temps. i had to apply thermal paste and clean its cooling fans. just be careful when doing so to prevent permanent damage.

thank you for your help.. my gpu usage is the same like before, same games i was playing from a while gpu temps never go pass 70c, and now gpu temps is higher for about 7 degrees.

i never try to apply a thermal before, can you tell how did you apply it? by using the dot method in the middle, or by spreading it on the gpu?. and how was your temps after that?

and what do you think about Zalman ZM-STG2 Thermal Grease?

thank you.. I'm already worried from doing this as its my first time. i watched a video of someone spreading a layer on the gpu core, and another same layer on the heat sink, can i do that? i think it will be more effective.
