Question GPU temps/utilization

I was playing an older game (AC Black Flag), and noticed that the GPU junction temp on my XFX 7900xt was really high - almost 100c. I ran the Heaven benchmark, and the temps almost immediately hit 90, and this was with the fans running 100%.

I have not had this problem until this evening, and am not sure what it could be. I double checked all of my cable connections, and everything was fine.

The GPU is only 3 months old. I know there were issues with the reference cards vapor chamber, but I never heard of any temp issues with other models.

I have no idea what this is, or why it's doing it. Does anyone have any ideas?

It's spring here. temps today were in the 60s

the room my PC is in is kept around 65 f year round, as I prefer it around that temp.

I have plenty of ventilation for my GPU.

I have an NZXT H7 flow case, with three 140mm Noctua fans as front intake, the same fan as a rear exhause, and 3 Phanteks T30 120mm fans as top exhaust on my AIO.

I'm getting these temps with the side panel off the case.

I've kept the AMD overlay up while just web surfing, just to see what it says.

it's showing GPU utilization of 25-30%, and temps around 45c. There are no games running, just 3 tabs on Microsoft Edge.

this does not seem normal to me at all.

Go into Edge (Settings/System Performance) and turn off hardware acceleration as well as allowing it to run in the background and see if anything changes.

Not sure. It's an XFX Ultra.

I've run almost every game I have, and there are only 3 where I don't have this problem - AC Brotherhood, Black Flag and Rogue.

Even games like mafia 2 and GTA V are doing it.

I've had the fans cranked up to 100, and it makes no difference.

I'm guessing I might be looking at an RMA. I hope XFX is good about those things, as this card is only 3 months old

Did all of that. Closed Edge, and then loaded AC Valhalla.

With fans maxed to 100%, I hit 95c running the benchmark, and saw frame rates drop as low as 20fps.
