[SOLVED] GPU upgrade compatibility with Tampa2 motherboard?

My 1070 Ti is having some serious issues so I'm looking at upgrading my GPU to an RTX 3060 or 3070 to use now and for a future PC build. Will a 3060/3070 work with my current system? The newer GPU's have PCIe 4, whereas my board has PCIe 3 so I'm not sure if that's a major concern.

Here's my specs:

Current GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 Ti
MOBO: Tampa2 https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c06177288
CPU: i5 8400
RAM: CORSAIR VENGEANCE® LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz
PSU: Seagate Focus PX-750 (recent upgrade)
Storage: 1xNVMe m.2 512GB (boot), 1xSSD 500GB, 2xSATA 1TB
Three 1080p monitors (2xhdmi, 1x display port), 60 hz

If the 30's are too much for my current specs, then perhaps you might suggest another GPU?

No problem at all!
PCI-E Gen. 3 speed is enough for 3060 and 3070!
But Maybe you should consider at some point upgrading your CPU!
At least something with i7 in its name.

Thank you, Vvrvelat! Sadly, the GPU's I was looking at last night already sold out so here I am searching once again...grrrr. I'll be quicker to hit the buy button next time lol

A CPU upgrade is very tempting! My mobo has a Z370 chipset and LGA 1551 (-2?) socket. The specs from 2017 say I can upgrade the CPU to the those I'll add below, but since that information is outdated there may be others not listed that could also work? Thoughts?

If a 1070ti works any new gpu should work.

Intel has moved onto a different socket, so your motherboard will not get any more upgrade options in the future.

An i9 9900k (best CPU for that socket) might work, but I would not go with any CPU not listed there, just to be sure of compatibility.
