Ok i am stuck in abit of a dilemma i want to upgrade my gpu as its not been done in a while and its starting to lack a little.
I currently have a nvida 1060 6gb palit jetstream i was looking at going to the 4060 8gb as its a very good jump for me.
But 8gb vram seems to getting pushed nowdays in some games so i was looking at the 4060 ti 16gb but the price of it is crazy for what you get and reviews and videos on it has not been great either.
So i started looking at amd cards but never used amd before and i know they have had some problems and lack abit when going against nvidas counter part in some cases and amd use alot more power.
I dont really want to buy a used gpu as i dont know whats been done to it and if it has any problems.
So do i just stick with the 1060 for now and wait for next gen to come out or the price to drop on the 4060s or do i go with the 4060 8gb or 16gb or just take a leap and move over to amd and get something like the radeon rx 7600xt.

Solution
This is a better review, it has the 7600 XT on it.

You can see that the 6700XT beats it often, and the 6750XT is a little faster than that. These both also still have a PCIe 16x connection, rather than 8x which is good for your older system. Same is true of the 3060.

4060Ti 8GB is slightly faster, but then if you do run into an 8GB limit, the 6700XT and 6750XT are likely to pull ahead, or you pay the extra 100 for the insurance, or the slightly underperforming 7600 XT.

It is tricky because right now they are all priced quite closely. If I had a newer system and I wanted to prioritize lower power, I might take the 7600 XT or 4060Ti 16GB, but likely...
This conundrum has been played out for every gamer millions of times. Do I buy or do I wait ?
What games are you and do you intend to play ?
What is your budget ?
What is the rest of your spec as that will impact how much a new GPU can stretch its legs
What is your PSU ?
How much case space do you have ?
details, details, details...

I play loads of random games from shooters too mmos to puzzle solving games single players multiplayers.
budget is around 300-400£ hense the reason for aiming for 4060s and not 4070 as much as i would like to stretch that far
space i am not too worried about as i am going to get another case thats bigger than what i have now and i still have room for a bigger card in this case
Power supply is 650 watt currently

I am playing on integrated graphics and have decided that since I can play Wow pretty good for now, I can wait. Base it on need and the expectation that in 3 months something better is going to be available if you buy now. Based on information provided by a number of sites, it looks like Intel or AMD may release something tantalizing by Q3.

RTX 3060 12GB is still a huge jump in performance in your price range.

7600XT is in the same boat as the 4060Ti, they are both 8GB cards with doubled up VRAM. The GPU isn't really powerful enough to need that much memory. There would be very few games where it makes a huge difference. You would have to reduce the settings anyway to get a reasonable frame rate, and that is only going to get worse over time.

I would stick with the normal RX7600 or get a 6700 XT or 6750 XT. You could also take a walk on the wild side with a 16GB A770 from Intel.

The 7600xt is 16gb not 8gb vram intel cards are not there yet driver support is not great right now for them not willing to walk that far onto the wild just yet lol.

RX7600 and RX7600XT have the same core count, same clock speeds, and same bus width. RTX4060Ti 8GB and 16GB have the same core count, clock speeds, and bus width. 8GB cards with double the VRAM. The point of that sentence is that the GPU performance doesn't match the memory amount. If you try to run a game with the highest settings, the GPU will slow you down before the VRAM, in all but a few edge cases.

I agree, Intel support isn't the best that is why it would be on the wild side, but it is getting better. Most things with DX12 or Vulkan support are just fine. I do run an A380 just to keep an eye on it.

So there is not really any point going for the 16gb version of the 4060 then.

No, and not much point in the 7600 XT either. Better to get the 6700 XT 6750XT or even 7700XT or RTX 3060 12GB. Spend less now, save the money and buy the next available GPUs in a few years time when they stop making silly cards for marketing purposes.

The 4060 and the 3060 are basically the same price looking at benchmarks the 4060 shows its better so would i not be better at going with that or sticking with the 3060 for the extra vram.

4060 Ti 160W (A shame the 4060 Ti 16GB didn't get a least a higher power envelope)
7600 165W
3060 170W
7600 XT 190W
6700 XT 230W
6750 XT 250W

Yeah think i chose the wrong time to start looking to upgrade lol least now i got abit more insight. Think i will hold off for now and hopefully a good deal comes up not playing much right now anyway as its abit dry for games right now. Thanks for help
