GPU Upgrade Verification Request

Hello,

I've purchased this PC off of Amazon about 2 years ago and immediately installed a EVGA 750 Ti FTW, way to much ram, a 750W power supply and now want to upgrade my GPU again to a EVGA 970 GTX FTW+.

(I also installed a couple of fans and a much more efficient processor cooler)

Maybe I'm being ignorant here, but I'm not worried about my PSU or RAM, but more concerned about this fitting my motherboard or other potential conflicts that I'm not privy to and this is why I ask this community the following question. Is there anything out there from the information listed above that I should be wary of?

I would like to mention that any thought or assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance for any time spent on this post.

Thank you,
Alex

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you have a recommended, compatible CPU for my motherboard? I know an Intel is not compatible here, but have little knowledge beyond that. I know this is outside the original scope of my request, so please feel free to refer me to a different forum.

Again, I appreciate your time on this thread.

Thanks,
Alex

THe best processors you can get for that Motherboard is the FX-8320e or FX-8370e The e at the end is very important as they are 95w processors, vs the ones without the e which are 125 watt. 125 watt processors will have problems with such a low end board.

With either of those processors a GTX 970 or an RX 480 is a bit more worth it. Both processors will not give the card the most that it can handle and will be somewhat of a bottleneck, but games will be playable and at good levels of detail, even if you are not nailing 60fps all the time.

Hi Rogue Leader, I just checked out those on Amazon and they look quiet tempting and I'm seriously considering purchasing a new processor to match a future purchase for the EVGA Nvidia GTX 970 GPU.

Additionally, I just looked at my current processor installed and it's a FX-4130, which if I understand correctly, already uses a 125W in power. Are you suggesting that could have been a mistake by the manufacture and that even though a 125W processor was installed, it's not recommended to purchase another processor with the same level of power?

Your motherboard does support 125w cpus. However with twice the cores to power we have found that lower end boards have a lot of issue with 8 core 125w cpus especially under heavy loads. The power phase design of the board just can't handle them. You will end up with some seemingly random issues, we see it all the time here. Getting a 95w 8 core cpu can prevent this.
