GPU will only overclock when afterburner is open

Hi everyone,
I currently own the MSI GTX 1060 Gaming x 6GB, and I was mining ethereum with it. Originally, I would only get around 19 mH/s, but I overclocked the memory with MSI Afterburner to around 24 mH/s (+925mHz). However, at random times, when AB isn't open, the hashrate will return to 19 mH/s. As soon as I manually open up Afterburner it returns to 24 mH/s. I was wondering why the GPU only overclocks when Afterburner is open.

Thanks,
Protolate

Solution
sorry, last night i reinstalled pc and wiped afterburner

try to seek the option on a afterburner screenshot

however, this setting only applies when afterburner is open, so keep it pen all the time, so it handles fan curve and overclocks on gpu, don't close it
the overclock is applied by the app, the order is sent by the app, not a option set somewhere inside the gpu, is a parameter ordering to do something specifically, after a while with the app closed, it resets itself to real normal values

leave afterburner always open, set to load on boot, and applying the overclock as soon as it loads

Well I set it to apply OC settings on startup. What happened was I was mining at around 24 mH/s, but then I wanted to play some Overwatch. I closed both the miner and Afterburner. After around 1 hr of Overwatch, I quit and opened up the miner again. This time, however, it was at 19 mH/s. I don't know why it would reverse the OC settings after 1 hr of Overwatch.

the act of close the game could force the reload of stock parameters from the driver so gpu went back to conservative low clocks

once you pushed again, the settings responded based on the driver limit, not the afterburner parameter not present at the moment

afterburner itself has a option to refresh values more often to keep the overclock applied, so this is perfectly normal

Do you happen to know where that setting is? I can't find it at all.
