GPU won't work - different issues when tried on various machines

Hi

Tried installing a new GPU on my brother's PC. It freezes at the BIOS/Mobo splashscreen, can't even get into BIOS. Had to remove it and use old (tiny weak) GPU or integrated GPU in order to even get into BIOS. From there can set to use integrated card rather than PCI-Express-16 and then put the card back in but that doesn't really solve anything as it's not being used. Updated BIOS but didn't fix it. 🙁

Tried it on another PC. It successfully loads Windows but I don't think it's actually using the card, possibly it's using an integrated card (even though BIOS is set to use PCI-Express). Drivers won't install and Windows Experience Index shows only 1.0. Games wont' play and give various errors which have googled but no help really. 🙁

Have one other PC to try it on, although don't really want to mess it up (which I probably will as it's got NVIDIA GPU in now and brother's is AMD). Is there any way to tell if GPU is:
a) incompatible
b) broken
c) will work with a fix.

Were you doing a clean driver install with each card installation?

this seams to me that gpu is defective does it still under warranty .

I think my brother did when he first attempted this, I'll check. I wouldn't have thought that was the problem though as on the first computer it freezes on the BIOS spashscreen before any Windows drivers would've been loaded?

If you can't get into bios, then the pc hasn't POSTed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power-on_self-test) If you have an internal speaker and know what bios your mobo has, the post code will tell you what's wrong.

Hi. It loads Windows fine another card or the integrated card so I know the card is the issue (unless you meant the PoST can tell me about why the GPU is causing issues?) Thanks.

🙁 I guess if I'm 100% sure it's broken. If I RMA it and they do checks and it isn't I guess that would be bad. :S

Not bad - you just get it back after paying for shipping.

Try another card in your pc. And try the card in another pc. Just to double check.

Thanks. Is there any chance it could just be incompatible and not broken? I know less about GPUs than I do other PC parts. :|
