Hi guys

First of all my spec:
Intel core i3 @ 3.07ghz
MSI Radeon HD 7770
Gigabyte H55M-S2V
IMAX ATX12 550w

I am having issue with my gpu after moving it on booting the its fan would run sometime at max speed and there is no display.

Things I have tried so far:
Brought it to a friends house to test on his pc, works fine there. Noted that I need to use a 6 pin power adapter since the psu doesn't have it, tried to use the adapter too check whether it was the source of the problem still worked fine.

At one point where when booting up with still no display I just switched my Dvi cord to the on the onboard booted windows with no problem but when I got to device manager>display adapter the card did not appeared there.

Tried to see in Bios if the onboard was conflicting with card but the setting was already on
Init Display first [PCI] and Vga enable [If no Ext Peg]

Finally resorted to using my old Gpu an Nvidia Gt 610 to check if the pci slot on the motherboard was the issue but it works fine

I have run out of ideas and turning towards you guys to see if you can help thanks.

Do you have a model number of your PSU, or at the very least the amp (A) ratings of the +3.3, +5, and any +12v lines on it's sticker? Since it doesn't have a PCI-E connecter I kind of wonder if it's a little older and not very well balanced for more modern machines where they now get most of their power from the +12v lines rather than spread among them.

The OP already shared the PSU he has (IMAX ATX12 550w). It meets the specs required for his system, but that does not mean it is performing as it should. He/She needs to test another GPU card and/or PSU to see which is the issue.

check to see if your mb has the newest bios file. there two rev of the mb a 1.4 and a 1.3 both use a f3 bios to see if it a bios bug. if the new card does not work...it may be a bios or chipset issue. if the nvidia cards are wqorking i set up an exchange for a full refund and pick up an nvidia gpu.

@Traciatim yes it does have those a ratings and I have been using this configuration for months prior to the moving it is only now that the Gpu wont work
Unfortunately I cant test with another Psu right now

I'm thinking it's a PSU issue as well, just to throw my 2 cents in.

GPU doesn't work in your computer.
GPU does work in other computer.

GPU is fine.

Low end GPU works fine in your computer

PCI-e slot is fine.

Integrated graphics works fine in your computer.

Motherboard/CPU is fine.

ONLY thing left is PSU. While it might (allegedly) have sufficient power, if it's not a single rail system he might be overloading one of the output rails or one of the rails might have failed causing a 'no power' to the GPU while allowing power to get to everything else.

BTW, everything I've found on the Imax 550w psu indicates it's a time bomb. Just bite the bullet and replace it before it really does some damage.

Did you try putting that in to google? The only thing I could find that made any sense was a post on this very forum (from 2010) that suggested it's only rated at 27a on the 12v rail, meaning at it's peak it would be rated at 324 watts. If it's a few years old then that's probably 10-15% less and even then only if it was a really well built supply can it be reliably driven at it's capacity.

I finally got my hands on another PSU an Aerocool KCAS-700w
And now the Gpu wont even turn on when i boot i just see the fan barely move then stop
No response at all

Yeah - he seems to have a tendency it appears to pick exactly the lowest quality PSU's. Granted, he's not running a high-load build (probably 225w max TDP) but still, some of those low end units are square little boxes of potential fireworks.
