Hello,
I am have a lot of trouble right now and don't really know what I'm doing, any help would be appreciated!
So I was trying to upgrade my CPU and GPU, to a RX 5700 and i7-6800K (both second-hand). The first mistake I made was accidentally buying the same CPU I already had (i5-6500), which probably is a good indication of how well I understand what i'm doing.
I started by replacing the CPU (to the same model i had before, unknowingly) and GPU, and received no output to the TV from the card, however the fan on the card was spinning. I plugged into the motherboard instead and could see that the gpu was not showing up in device manager.
I tried a number of steps I saw online, including:
So my question is... have I somehow broken my motherboard in replacing these parts, and should I refrain from ever trying to assemble a computer again? Or is there some solution to this?
Setup (before upgrade):
CPU: i5-6500
GPU: R9 390
Motherboard: AsRock B150M-HDV
PSU: EVGA 550 G2

I tried a number of steps I saw online, including:
- taking the gpu out and putting back in again to check it is seated properly
- Removing the old graphics card drivers with DDU (I had previously installed some non-AMD drivers to try and get a game to run on the old card)
- Updating the BIOS
- Changing the PCIE connection settings in the bios to "gen 2" and "gen 3"
- Switching to using 2 power cables for the gpu (instead of one daisy chained as i had previously)
So my question is... have I somehow broken my motherboard in replacing these parts, and should I refrain from ever trying to assemble a computer again? Or is there some solution to this?
