If you're only running a 1080p monitor, don't upgrade any higher than a gtx 1070. Just make sure your power supply is adequate.

That's an adequate power supply. Your third gen i7 would pair nicely with a gtx 1070, assuming you're running 1080p. That will give you an additional 2-3 years of gaming at that resolution.
