Hi, just been looking at the amd r9 290 and amd r9 290 tri-x oc, now I'm just wondering how much better is the tri-x and is it worth spending an extra £65 on? Finally is my build ok for it too;

Processor - intel core i5 3570k
Motherboard - asus p8z77-v
Graphics card - sapphire radeon hd 7870
Ram - crucial ballistix sport

Your build is fine.

It depends really, what kind of cooler does the other one have? The tri x oc also comes over clocked out of the box and will run at lower temperatures. At that price point, have you considered a r9 390? They run a bit cooler than the 290s

The Tri-X is Sapphire's card with a large cooler and 3 fans. As for the other 290 card, which brand is it....is it the stock cooler with just 1 fan on the end? Obviously the Tri-X is overclocked (and it will be a higher OC than the other card would OC to), but the biggest price difference is in the cooler. The Tri-X will run cooler, where as the cheaper card, if it has a stock cooler, will run so hot you won't be able to overclock it at all. So is it worth spending the extra money, well that depends on how hard you will work the GPU. If you intend to use it to the max, then get the more expensive card as it will perform better and should have a longer life due to running cooler.
